4. Epilepsy

Sudden, excessive discharges of electrical activity in the nervous system and brain trigger epileptic seizures that can cause involuntary movements and loss of consciousness.

In the U.S., only migraine, stroke and Alzheimer’s are more common neurological disorders. Although seizures can affect people of every age, epilepsy is most common in the very young and the elderly.
